Your Itinerary

Visit Skipton, home to one of England's best-preserved medieval castles and gateway to the southern Dales, this busy market town takes its name from the Anglo-Saxon sceape ton (sheep town).  There are no prizes for guessing how it made its money. Enjoy a stroll around Skipton before joining a canal cruise to experience the town from the water. (Your canal cruise is included).

Visit Ripon, the little city that packs a big punch. Ripon is a cathedral city steeped in history and home to magnificent historical buildings and long observed traditions. You will find a trio of award winning museums and a gothic cathedral that dates back to the 7th century that are waiting to feed enquiring minds.

Journey to Fountains Abbey. After falling out with the Benedictines of York in 1132, a band of rebel monks came here to establish their own monastery. Struggling to make it alone, they were formally adopted by the Cistercians in 1135. By the middle of the 13th century, the new abbey had grown wealthy from trading wool and had become the most successful Cistercian venture in the country. After the Dissolution, when Henry VIII confiscated church property, the abbey's estate was sold into private hands. (This is a National Trust attraction).

Entrance fees are not included unless otherwise stated.
